Eco friendly team building events: 7 sustainable swaps we’ve made for 2024

Here at ACF Events, we’re committed to organising environmentally friendly events to accommodate the growing needs of clients who are expanding their eco-aspirations into every area of their businesses.

As a Greengage ECOsmart certified company, we’re adopting greener practices year in, year out, so we can minimise the negative impact of our operations and continue to deliver eco friendly team building events that do some good.

In 2022, we shared 8 ways to organise sustainable events inspired by the shifts we’d made as a company. So, here we are to share even more eco-friendly swaps we’ve made for 2024.

1. Sourcing venues with conscious credentials.

There are a billion and one obstacles you may stumble across as you seek to organise a sustainable event. Luckily for you, you don’t have to go it alone!

The ACF team have unmatched venue-finding skills, which means we’re able to swiftly source accredited event venues that align with your green goals.

Whether you’re hosting a corporate fun day, themed party, company festival or team building day, simply tell us your requirements, and we’ll start searching!

Psst! You can even start the search yourself with our online venue finder which features all of our recommendations by location.

2. Sending clients our ACF Eco Event Checklist.

Once you’ve sent us your enquiry, we’ll send you our guide to eco events that explores how we can best meet your pre-determined sustainability objectives. Once they’re all outlined, we’ll help you to design a memorable, eco-friendly event that achieves them.

For example, if you’re lowering your carbon footprint, we’ll help you find a venue with excellent public transport links or source local food suppliers using seasonal produce.

3. Eliminating single-use plastics from our events.

A shocking Government report found that the amount of plastic in the world’s oceans is set to treble in less than a decade.

Our industry traditionally produces large volumes of plastic waste, but it doesn’t align with our values to put convenience before the climate crisis.

In 2019, we swapped disposable plastic bottles for reusable cups and water tanks at our events, and we later committed to the Meeting Industry Association’s plastic pledge to eliminate single-use plastic by late 2023.

We’re happy to report that we achieved this goal and now invest in biodegradable alternatives and reduce, reuse and recycle where possible.

4. Offering culture-shifting corporate events and experiences.

Over the last year or so, we’ve expanded our offerings to encourage companies to invest long-term in both their employee wellbeing and workplace culture. Better mental health support in the workplace has been shown to save UK businesses up to £8 billion annually, so it’s definitely worthwhile!

From forest bathing to mindfulness, mental health workshops to tai chi, the lessons learned last well beyond the sessions and demonstrate how important it is to prioritise personal and professional development in 2024.

Get in touch and we’ll help you organise a year of activities aimed at maximising mental wellbeing, acting on sustainability pledges, and having a good ol’ laugh at the same time!

UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good health and wellbeing. Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages.

5. Measuring client emissions with our event carbon calculator.

For the last couple of years, we’ve been measuring our emissions with a carbon calculator to help us make conscious choices and offset the impact of any carbon output that we can’t eliminate.

We’re continuing to reduce emissions by encouraging employee carpooling, retiring some of our older activity vehicles, and ensuring the number of vehicles we take to events is kept to a minimum.

Our quest for lower emissions goes beyond our internal operations. In 2024, we’re giving our clients the opportunity to measure their events through Greengage’s EVENTSmart carbon calculator, and they’ll be encouraged to offset their carbon footprint through various environmental programmes too.

6. Settling into our new-and-improved office.

In 2023, we moved into a new office – still on the same farm amidst the rolling Mendip Hills – that has allowed us to make more conscious choices.

For example…

  • We use LED lighting.
  • All of our office furniture is pre-loved or recycled.
  • Our taps are fitted with flow restrictors.
  • All consumables are eco-friendly or refillable.
  • We bulk buy where possible.

In terms of sourcing green energy, there’s a large wood burner that keeps us nice and toasty in the winter, and our wood is from sustainable suppliers.
